BEFORE CLEMSON: Played two seasons (2008,09) at Florence-Darlington Technical College, where he was coached by Curtis Hudson...red-shirted at Florence-Darlington Technical College in 2007...all-region selection as a sophomore and senior at Belton-Honea Path High School...member of the football state champions as a junior...attended the same high school that sent former Tiger All-American Matthew LeCroy (1995-97) to Clemson...lettered three times in baseball and three times in football at Belton-Honea Path High, where he was coached by Steve Williams.

PERSONAL: His father, Jimmy, played football at Furman (1977,78) and was a member of the Clemson football team (1979,80)...majoring in sociology...born James Robert Cox, Jr. on June 8, 1988 in Spartanburg, SC.
